Striving for the
Highest Standards in Service

The BARBOURVILLE UTILITIES Commission delivers the most economical and highest-quality services to Barbourville and Knox County. Whether it's providing the most dependable electrical and water services or the most advanced telecommunications, we are dedicated to ensuring premier reliability and excellence for all our customers.

Growth and Governance

In October 1938, the Barbourville City Council established the commission to purchase the existing electric system. Now comprising 44 dedicated employees, the commission has grown to include water, wastewater, and fiber Internet services. Three commissioners, all Barbourville residents, are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the city council, each serving a three-year term.
